South Molton Town Band-0156_edited.jpg

Lonely Brass Instruments seek players for musical relationship.

We are instruments of 2nd Section South Molton Town Band seeking players for rehearsals towards Area Championships and beyond. Looking for commitment  & GSOH for fun and good music.

We are looking to fill various positions. A minimum of two contests a year plus a sensible diary of engagements.

Interested? Contact us on Facebook, southmoltonstownband@gmail.com or ring our Chairman Ray for a chat on 01769573113

South Molton is in the heart of North Devon, and records suggest that there has been a brass band there since 1910.

The band has been entertaining people all over the West Country and beyond for almost 100 years, performing concerts, taking part in carnivals and fetes, and charitable fund raising events, throughout the South West.

The band is entirely self supporting and its players travel from all over Devon to attend rehearsals and engagements.

Over the years the band has been very proud of its contesting achievements, and has taken part in many competitions. NationalWest of England area finals, SWBBA contest, Bugle Contest and Weston. Currently they are graded as a Second section band

following their recent 3rd place success at the SWBBA regional Finals inTorquay.

For many years the band has been conducted by a member of the Taylor family, and Gil Taylor is the current Musical Director. In the past it has been conducted by his Father, Grandfather and Great Uncle.

Sadly with Covid restrictions in place this year the band have not played together as a large ensemble since their performance on the contest stage on the 14 March 2020. As rules have changed throughout the year small groups of 6 have managed to meet within guidelines and it is hoped that these small numbers may appear occasionally to play carols on the Enhancement in the Town Square. It is requested that well-wishers do not approach the band, simply enjoy the music as they go about their daily business. This is purely to respect the social distancing protocols for both the passer-by and the band members.

We will not be collecting for the band this year as it encourages social distancing protocols to be broken. Instead we would ask you to put any contribution you may have made to another local charity and simply enjoy the music we aim to provide.
